That the Internet has come to facilitate the daily tasks of both individuals and companies is a more than obvious reality. Proof of this are the businesses based in the Balearic Islands, which, according to a recent report by the Balearic Observatory of the Information Society, have increased their use of the Internet to publish advertisements or send electronic invoices by more than 13% compared to the rest of Spain's autonomous communities. In both cases, fixed broadband networks with a download speed of between 2 and 10 megabytes per second are used by more than 95 percent of companies. This implementation has been transferred to the public administration since, as of January 15th, all invoices belonging to the procedures carried out with it must be issued electronically, something that, due to the high implementation of Internet in businesses in the Balearic Islands, should not be a problem.
But, in addition to facilitating interaction between the Balearic Administration, companies also use the Internet to obtain forms and printed matter and to obtain various information, especially on banking and financial services. As for the data already mentioned on the publication of advertisements and publicity, this autonomous community also leads the country in terms of amounts spent. During the last period, companies in the Balearic Islands have reduced their use of these platforms by more than two points. Specifically, 71e businesses with more than 10 employees currently have a profile on one of them, while on those with fewer employees the value is reduced to 24%.
Similar percentages can be seen in the number of companies with their own websites. These data on social networks are slightly lower than the national average. Furthermore, this report also estimates that, of all companies in the Balearic Islands with an online site, 85 percent have a presentation and half of them have a catalogue of services and products. In addition, 28% allow their customers to make purchases online as well as make reservations and place orders.
